I received my Merkur 180 safety razor yesterday and a sampler pack of DE razor blades the day before to figure out which brand I want to use. I use an African black soap based shaving "butter" with a badger hair brush and use a witch-hazel/tea tree oil aftershave. |

I spent far too many years shaving for suit and tie jobs. The only thing I learned was that cheap razors were the enemy.

I can't use a razor on my face, so I use barber clippers to shave my jaws and I maintain a chin patch and moustache.
For my head, I use the Head Blade. It's awesome.

I have a beard but I have to keep my neck clean shaven .... big keys for me are:
Using a sharp, quality razor, shave right after a shower, and shave using cold water..... seems to keep the razor burn at bay.

I've seen the headblade in stores. I wish I was the jerk making money off of it! Brilliant design. I'm so far pleased with the safety razor after two shaves. They have been just as close as a five-blade monstrosity and the blades don't cost near as much as cartridges.

New health code regulations are limiting beards. If you are a cook you can have one as long as you wear a beard net..For the servers they cannot have more than two days stubble. Manager hair doesn't fall out, so I am not categorized, but I have to keep it trimmed close...

Now that I'm seperated from Uncle Sam I can grow a beard for more than a month at a time.Being new to my job as a Paramedic was leary about growing one . Then I thought what the hell other people grow em at current job and I pay union due's for a reason. Only negative is chin has is white, my inner vain person was thinking about just for men but would look silly as hell trying to pull that off after everyone I work with has seen the grays.
If you can and want to grow a beard give it some time, beards don't develop overnight some taking more time than others. As for shaving gear have been doing the retro thing for about 6 years now trying to stick it to Gillette and others and their wasteful, expensive products. Have gone through a bunch of vintage and modern safety razors and even gave straights a shot. Previous to beard decision was rotating Merkur Barber Pole HD, Gillette Fatboy, and Gillette Slim. Big fan of proraso creams, tabac soap, and boar brushes having a semogue and Omega in collection, along with Omega Badger. Closet Old Spice fan to boot. |
