This is purely for discussion as I know it may prove controversial but remain chilled. And, we know it won't change anything, even if we don't fully agree with the set-up. ![]() Personally, I don't like heats where the top two or 4 or however many get to go through (which I think is the standard set-up in every known competition), and it doesn't matter whether they are running Olympic races, school races or in strongman comps. Heats, IMO, are there purely because there are a lot of contestants that can't all go up against each other at the same time due to lack of available space. With strongman and other heat style comps, it's not the strongest/fastest going through, it's the strongest within that heat. Why shouldn't it be the strongest 8 or however many out of the entire heats done? That would, after all be much fairer. Of course, that would mean that people couldn't just do enough to get by in their heat because someone in another heat may have done better in which case they'd have to give it their all on each occasion, and that would prove far more entertaining that some of the heats where we see people not bother because they know they are through on what they've already done. But, above all, the strongest out of all of the contestants would go through and not just the strongest in a particular heat. Just my view, as I say.

I don't like the concept of heats in strength sports. Let them all have a crack and the best get rewarded. Not the best of a heat.
