Default Strength Statement

I found this while roaming the internet for strength related things, as I do. What do you people think of it?

Quote:
An individual with an arm length under 24 inches long has a significant advantage over those with arms 27 inches or longer. An individual with 24-inch arms with a 300-pound maximum bench press completes 7200 inch-pounds of work. An individual with 27-inch arms only has to have a maximum bench press of 266 pounds to create 7200 inch-pounds of work.

So I can blame my weak bench on my gorilla arms? I do believe the statement has truth to it.

My opinion is that it ignores other factors. The equation has more than one variable. The physics is ignoring the reality. The long arm individual may have naturally more mass, more tendon strength, bigger bones, better recovery abilities, etc.

On paper this analyzes a simple machine. The human body is not a simple machine. The equation is more complex.

its relative, if you have relative short arms comparing to the rest of your bone structure sure you have an advantage as the range of motion becomes relative shorter.

Personally I thought it was the biggest pile of bullpoo I've seen on the 'net in a while.

While I agree that we each have different strengths and weaknesses, that is undeniable. To then go and use that to justify his own bench strength relative to someone else who is apparently more gifted just screams virgin.

I will say that I've never seen any point on focusing on any of this type of genetics stuff. No matter how strong or big you "guess" your limitations to be, you can beat them by will and dedication.

My theory is, if you're strong, you're strong and if you're not, you're not...a good few people, lighter than me and yet around the same height, limb length etc are way stronger than I am...they've just trained a lot more than me and probably a lot more intensely.
