New rule - bad drivers, hold an idiot sign

A judge in Cleveland ordered a driver who ended up driving on the sidewalk to overtake a school bus to hold a sign "only an idiot would drive on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus", in addition to a fine and suspending her license.

I would have thought the public humiliation punishments would be too much of a legal risk these days. Interesting if someone who knows law could weigh in.

There was some speculation that the sentence was too demeaning, but there also weren't too many people willing to stand up for the moron. She had been doing this for a long time, almost every day certain weeks. It was only caught on camera once.

The idea of public humiliation is outstanding. In the day where people are too concerned about themselves and what other perceive them as, being humiliated should be a good deterrent. And for those who would continue, then the legal system continues as well, meaning next step is a much more severe punishment. Not just a fine, but a ban from driving for at least a year, and also loss of the vehicle. Make the offender start with a new license after being retrained at their own cost, make them get a new vehicle as well. Maybe when they realize how severe the punishment is, they will think twice. It would also serve as a deterrent to others, knowing what they face if they do the same.

But in my uber-extreme court of mind, this dummy should have just been executed, or at least had a foot chopped off. An ignorant woman, who clearly has shown multiple disregard for innocent human life, and that of a child.

Whenever I hear of these cases, I always think, wouldn't it be better to put the sign in the relevant place?

How about restaurants with health code violations have to put a sign at the front, "2012 June, found to have rats, 2012 July, found to be clear," or on cars, "2009 October, convicted drink driving, reckless driving," etc.

We put warnings on tobacco, why not cars?

I think California has a lettering/grading system that is required to be posted on restaurants. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

We could do the same in gyms. Everyone required to wear a t-shirt with years trained and best lifts, running times, etc.

If it were a PT, they'd have to put their clients' achievements there (as I do sidebar on my blog).

That way when people offer advice, we might have a good idea of its usefulness.

In N.C. there is a point system that has to posted, plus you can look up any restaurant on the health department's website that will show you what / why they took points off...

But to the original post, I was horrified when I saw the video. I often have impatience when driving, but would never think about or do that.
