Running is good. I played soccer when I was younger and always thought of/associated weightlifting with roided up bodybuilders. I wish I knew then the things I know now (not that I know that much now). Regardless, it is physical activity so it's good. Maybe you can run with him (for your aerobic conditioning) and maybe he might join you (for his muscular conditioning). I always find that I run better after a squat or deadlift based workout. My son deadlifted my EZ curl bar with 15 lbs per side (total of 45 lbs)...he saw the pride in my face and really got a charge out of it.

LtL, well I don't want to embarrass myself. I know people get up there With low numbers all the time. I have a 225 bench/ 245 squat but its probably more/ and a 315 dead. I guess I would be willing to go for a local competition in the summer. But that would be the soonest. I'm not going up there with those numbers. I just won't do it.

dossas, that was a joke. He has my 100% support. Whenever I run, I can't walk down stairs for a week.

Hey Matt. We put my son into soccer the last two summers. When the ball and the other kids were at one end, he was at the other pretending to be spiderman, or would come off the field to kick the ball around with me, or go rolling down the hill with other kids. It was really comical. Although, deep down, I really want him to take up soccer like his old man.

Ok on March 2nd There is the APF sanctioned Utah state Powerlifting Championships. I'm hoping the word "Championship" is just part of the title. It doesn't seem to be an invitation meet. I'll start getting the paperwork going.

Remember, it's also about getting use to taking part in meets, so, though you may not want to enter until you reach set numbers on the bar which is understandable, the experience would still be good for you, overall.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to do it. I do want to do decent though. Steve's helped me build a routine and has offered to help me tweak things between then and now. This will be a good experience. I'm excited now that I've accepted the idea.

Do the meet. I can almost guarantee you'll be glad you did.
State meets are where new lifters typically start. Don't let the word "championship" throw you! A state meet is usually a smaller meet.
My guess is you'll have several there that are new to the sport, want to get some experience, and just want to post a total of some sort.

Go to the rules meeting that morning. It will help you quite a bit.
Let the judges know that this is your first meet. They can help talk you through it as you go through the day.
