Default Closed vs Open

While looking a knee supports online I see that there are those with an open area around the patella and those without. I am curious what the purpose for this is. Which one would give better support. Or does just depend on your particular knee issue.

Default

Open is usually better if you're wearing it for long periods of time. Just general wear during the day to help the kneecap stay in good alignment.

Closed is usually better for training purposes.

Just a general rule of thumb though! Whatever works better for the individual.
