Question Why do you do???

Im just doing a small article for my blog on "Why We Do What We Do". It is going to be about power lifting/bbin/STM.
I just want to know why do you train for a certain sport? Why do you have the passion for it? what makes your sport unique to every other sport?

I do power lifting because there is no better way to push your self on a plat form. I like to do it because it demands a major roll in training for the Squat/Bench/Dead lift. It is unique because, IMO i believe we do not get as much credit as BB/Oly lifting.
When people look at me they think it is strange why I lift so much weight for a single rep, but i see it as a challenge against my self.

I like activities that allow we to improve over time. Muscle building was fun, but there was only so much muscle I could build, so I slowly turned to strength.

Why do I have passion for it? I guess in life each of us sooner or later finds that mountain we want to climb. It's a test. The more we learn about our capabilities, the more we see possibilities. So I think testing ourselves is a natural part of growth, and vital to confidence.

Powerlifting is unique because it's about improving ourselves and not just beating other lifters. Sure, it can be fun to break records, but not to "beat" another man, but rather to accomplish something that's never been done before.

At the end of the day, I do this for me. The mental and physical battle that takes place each time I walk in the door of the gym. The ability to block out other distractions, forget the pain and just make it happen.

Same as JB. I just do it for me. I love the way lifting makes my body feel. If I look better and get stronger? That's a plus!

I was always skinny and weak: 130 lbs @ 5' 9.5" into my late 20s. And hated it. My initial motive was to gain a few lbs in bodyweight, get in shape and gain some strength.

And then I found it takes some thought and mental strength to keep improving especially once you start encountering some kind of a road block - and I liked this aspect and hung around to lift.

For me it's not about self-respect, or because I was skinny or fat when I was a kid, or because of how it's a battle. I have nothing to prove, no-one to prove it too, I'm not doing it for any kind of self-affirmation or because I love pain or as means of getting back at some high school bully.

I do it just because it's who I am, it's as natural a part of my life as is breathing or walking. Simple.

I like lifting. I like to push myself and compete. I like being strong and getting stronger. I am goal-driven and enjoy the discipline. There are probably more reasons.
