Confession time...

I was suprised to find out that a majority of the kids on my son's football team were honor students. I need to slap myself for that one

Stupid

Its just a word people use when they don't understand what you are doing or something is about.

A more accurate way to say it is "They are ignorant about what you are doing."

This can pertain to the most intelligent of people.

I just blow them off. If they don't ask, they are choosing to remain ignorant.

Let them keep there opinions. Down the road it will come back to haunt them or they will look like a ideate at one point and thats worse than being called stupid.

What's an 'honor student'? I'm not sure we have the equivalent in the UK.

Average grades for all classes are well above the student body average. Around here honors students are 3.0 and 3.5 or above. There are 2 tiers.

A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
F = Nada.

There are plenty of brilliant guys who excel in multiple spheres. To add to your list, Dr. Ognjen Arandjelovic is a research fellow in Trinity College, Cambridge, (works in Computer Science, specifically face recognition softwares). He also happens to be a champion (British National Bodybuilding championship, heavyweight division).

In addition to being a top gun researcher and bodybuilder, this gentleman is also a superb artist.

Here's his website. Scroll down the links on left to see his bodybuilding exploits.

On the Sugdenbarbell site in the UK, there are a surprising number of very highly educated powerlifters: DocD (who also posts on IronAddicts) is a university bod, specialising - I believe - in early literature (e.g. Anglo-Saxon); Rick has a PhD in Maths and a stunning general education; Ian Kendrick has/is completing a PhD in muscle physiology/ergogenic effects of carnitine; another guy is a surgeon; someone has a PhD in mycology - and so on.

Personally, I've never found anyone makes negative assumptions about intelligence. Perhaps either (a) I'm not buff enough to warrant the prejudice or (b) they just don't say it to my face.

I studied astrophysics and math in college, though I did not complete my schooling. I was aiming for a double major. I am also a coding junkie, have written 2 books, ran my own computer business, designed and built over 200 custom PCs, have administered over 10,000 hearing tests, read over 50 books on world religions and philosophy and have recorded over 100 songs in my home studio.

When I'm not wasting my time on this crap I do what is important...eat, fart and move iron.

Long live the meathead.

Cool. I did astronomy as a subsidiary subject (my other subsid was history and philosophy of science). I always liked astrophysics, but unfortunately my maths wasn't good enough to get beyond A-Level with it.

Incidentally, the abbreviation math is starting to gain ground in the UK over the more traditional maths. A bit of transatlantic migration, like 'back in the day', which was completely unknown over here until a few years ago.
