Jen, it depends on if it's a competition lift. Some Organizations require only the lift, hence the term deadlift, not deadlift and replace. Other Orgs require the lift, lockout, and controlled release or it's not a good rep.
I prefer up and down, but probably because every gym I've worked in doesn't allow dropping the weights like that..not PF, but no dropping a heavy barbell. DW, can you clarify if you know which orgs require which method?

I think one of the reasons most people dont drop the weights in the commercial gyms is simply because they arent bumper plates.
For a while I was working with bumper plates in an old gym and nobody ever had any problems with lifters dropping the weights. Oly lifters do it all the time anyway. |
