Best memory you have of your dad

It's genuinely saddening to hear of MAB members with less than happy memories about their fathers.

My Dad wasn't the sharpest tool in the box, but he was very fair-minded, and calm and measured, and slow to condemn someone without knowing the full picture. I find as I get older that those are the values I like to see in people around me.

My Dad was my hero when I was younger, but, alas, I was a child and did not know the depth of his depavity. As I got older into my teen years I saw him for selfish, person he really was.

I hae tried a few times to mend the fence, but it is broken purley by his not being an emotionally adult person. My 14yr old has a far greater depth of person to her than he does.

It is for the best that for my family, and myself I let that bridge burn.

What a terrible shame.

I feel lucky that for me, it was the other way around. I had little time for him when I was a young man, because he wasn't as smart as me, and his interests weren't my interests. It took me a long time to see his merits.

These days, I sometimes think I'm turning into him, and that's fine by me - I could do a lot worse.

Us going camping every year during the summer for a week. Just the boys went. It was a great time had by all and my dad was a wonderful cook and taught me how to fish and set up a tent and do all sorts of camping stuff.
