I was going to start another thread about this.
I thinkits more a problem of people isolating each head separately rather than just concentrating on hitting the shoulder as a whole unit. doing 9 sets per exercise for oh pressing for instance would be overkill, plus the fron can get over trained easily. Its normally more a cause of people doing too much benching, then hitting the anteror delt on its own IMO. If more people did OH Press in a way that the medial delts got worked (how it is supposed to be done) and some good upright and bent over rows, they would soon see, as i have recently, that there isnt that much reason to isolate each head.

Compound>Isolation on every other body part, so 9 sets of isolation to 'hit' all the heads or 9 sets of compound exercises that all the heads... i know which i would choose

Carl.

It's a very good topic.

Quite frankly I believe the shoulders, along with the lower back, are the 2 areas of the body you should focus on the most if you want to be training into your 50's and beyond.

While I don't advocate an over-abundance of shoulder work, I do like to see a more appropriate balance and fewer isolation lifts.

Thanks for putting together the interviews and photos of Eder; I enjoyed reading them. I've always regarded him as the zenith of physical achievement - the ideal combination of strength and physique. Sounds like a bright guy in the interviews, too.
