There are a lot of journeymen powerlifters who don't have as much muscle, but if you compare them to the journeymen natural bodybuilders, it's fairly equal.
The average mid-card natural bodybuilder weighs about 160 pounds ripped. Not muscular at all!
You really need to check out some natural shows, both powerlifting and bodybuilding. It holds all the answers you are seeking.
Truth is, most of my natural powerlifting friends look bigger than my natural bodybuilding friends. And I have a lot of friends. That is no exaggeration, nor a diss on bodybuilders, but the fat makes us powerlifters look bigger. If we cut we'd lose some of that bonus mass and look about the same, perhaps sans a few lagging bodyparts.
I mean this in a respectful manner...right now you are forming opinions based on a limited data pool. To form a well-rounded and more accurate view, you need to go to legit locals competitions...not Elite shows, but local ones. Check out the mid-card guys. You'll be shocked at how small the average bodybuilding competitor is.
In the AAS realm, there is some difference because of chemicals. Bodybuilders and powerlifters don't use the same chemical cocktail, and that is the primary reason why they look different.
I've been in the "lab" of several top NPC bodybuilders. You would be shocked at what they use for size and cuts. Powelifters take some chems, but generally the chems that are more for pure strength.
Both use a base of testosterone, after that the chems differ quite a bit.
In the natty realm, most bodybuilders look tiny in person.
