Hey Moe - I certainly hear ya wrt the frustration with progression due to personal issues that tamper with your mentality and back issues that hold you back. My lower back has been hindering my progress on squat for over 2 years now, as I have been stuck in the 400-420 range. I have also been struggling to get that 500 deadlift for the same length of time. With that said, I have been progressing in form and mental state throughout 2012, which has been helping me feel satisfied with my sessions, despite the setbacks. I also met a 67 year old powerlifter in Vegas who has had similar experiences. He was one of the happiest guys there and was having a blast just doing his thing to the best of his ability and what his body was going to give him. For these reasons, I am grateful to just be able to lift, period. We have to face facts - that we are past our athletic primes and that progression will happen, but we sometimes don't see it.
Keep plugging away and make sure you enjoy every rep of every set. You never know what may happen to you.
