I agree with both. The body is a whole and one thing doesn't work well without the other. It performs as a unit and looks good as a unit.
How can one say working their core is not a primary when most of the time heavy squatting fails due to lack of core strength not quad strength. People fold like a sheet of paper at the waist with too much forward lean cuz their abs are weak compared to quads.
Or even from a symetrical point of view for a body builder....a chest and shoulders don't look good without arms or quads don't look good without hammies or glutes.
Now from my own training style i agree with with gasp. I tend to train compounds first then iso's as secondary. But for me its mearly to limit joint pain from overuse.
