I had a lamonectomy and a discectomy of L5-S1 in 1996. I am not a power lifter and a relative newb to lifting. I do squat and deadlift, but I listen very carefully to my body. For a competitive powerlifter this can be a frustrating surgery and injury. I am sure there are some who have been there done that, seek them out. Be patient and allow your body to heal. DO NOT rush to get back to lifting, the weights will be there. When you do, start slowly. It only gets worse if this one fails.
