No, you're not cheating, BigJosh. For me, part of deadlifting is a rhythm. I treat every rep of every set as a single: up, down, relax the grip, reset the grip, big breath, pull. Like BtB said, the bar may be on the floor for two or three seconds. That's all part of the rhythm that helps me get through an extended set (anything more than a single). I've even heard of some people (though I've never seen it) who will stand up between each rep. I don't suppose there's anything wrong with that either. It will take most folks a minute or two to begin recovering from a moderate to heavy pull. Pausing for a couple of seconds probably is not a factor.
