I would keep it basic..especially if he is a beginner. how much of a beginner? getting him stronger in the basic lifts will transfer over. Sometimes people specialize too much in their training without building a strong foundation. Once he develops a strong foundation then her can start to do more specialized more.

Various medicine ball throws are great to help increase the rate of force development throughout the whole body.
