One thing about "not deadlifting" that I find interesting is the topic of grip. I use straps and was cautioned many times that it might lead to grip issues on the platform. For me it wasn't the case. Jamie's situation is very similar, but I assume he is still doing rows and shrugs with straps?
All of his pulls were with straps as well but then strapping on and shrugging 1000lbs will probably give you a fair amount of grip work
