I just watched the Gareth Edwards film, 'Monsters'. If you like your monster films like Godzilla, then it might not be for you. Personally, I thought it was really good - a film about monsters where the creatures are just a backdrop to a road movie/love story. Very low key and unusual.

I then watched a documentary about how it was filmed. Amazingly low budget production! There are only two trained actors in it - the rest were people they encountered during shooting, who were asked if they want to be in a film . This gives it a sort of authenticity and un-hollywood-like feel that's quite refreshing.
