Embarrassed to say, I put a plate on my back and do the push ups. It doesn't stay stable but I find that when it's placed on lower back, it stays. Mind you, today the 15kg plate was on upper back and it stayed firm. I still think my dips are awesome even though massive lifts elude me
I have big hopes for the coming year. 1000 in the big 3 in 12 months time would be amazing, I am circa 840 now.
