This might not be what you want to hear but it works, moisturise. More supple skin recovers better.

Me personally I've always had good skin so I've never had to moisturise, it's never been an issue. However some friends of mine who compete in Grip and Strongman competitions recommend moisturising. The better the skin, the quicker it will heal. Dry, rough hands get torn up and heal much, much slower.
