^^That's not good stuff, it bypasses the satiation feeling or something of that nature which means the body does not know it's been/being fed and that's where the overeating and weight gain starts. I did read a pdf and study on it but can't remember the exact details, only that it's best avoided which is enough for me to know.
They don't use it so much in the UK, we're still at the "sugar" stage, I think. For example, our cola has added sugar and no corn syrup as of yet.
