This was intended to help me better understand what constitutes a legitimate movement. I don't want to piss anyone off. But I don't want to be humoured either.

Fair enough, the core and back are working in conjunction with the bis.
Bottom line tho, there are much more effective ways to train for athletic strength. Recklessly curling dumbells IMO isnt the answer.
