I almost added shrugs to the list. I like them not only as an exercise, but also for conditioning the CNS and building connective tissue strength.

And because they involve rack pulls of beastly weight which just feels damn good.

Agreed.

I voted deadlifts, because nothing you can say about them quite grasps their awesomeness, and front squats; because they're great for abdominal strength, quad development, and as an accessory to both squats and deadlifts.

I'd also put barbell shrugs up there.
