Default It's been a while...

It's been a while since I've posted in my log. Over 2 months. I haven't stopped lifting and I am still doing 5/3/1.
I am currently about to start on Tuesday either cycle 9 or 10. I'm not exactly sure which. I'll have to check the log book and figure it out.
Since I last posted in my log I've had a few successes and a few bumps in the road.
I had to stop a cycle mid way through because I came down with shingles. This kept me out of the gym a week or 2. It was actually while I was attempting a 3rd cycle of BBB. I was feeling burnt but was trying to push through when I got shingles. I am not saying shingles were brought on by Boring But Big, but......
I have since opted for a more reserved assistance plan, that you will see when I start logging again.
Since I stopped logging, I purchased a power rack and got a gym setup in my garage. It is great. I have found a way to do everything I need to do. I haven't been to the gym in over a month and have enjoyed not having to deal with the less than appealing aspects of the commercial gym. I will get some pictures up sooner or later of the gym setup.

I have begun a low carb, Carb Back Loading approach to dieting. At one point over a month ago I weighed somewhere around 296 and decided I was a bit to close to 300 for comfort. Also, I have grown tired of not really getting the attention for being muscular (sounds vain, I know). I put in all this work with the iron. I have a desire to be looked at as "yolked" or "swole", not just a big strong dude. I want some definition. It is obvious I lift, I am not rolley or fatty all over, just my gut, and I am very solid, but I want to lean out a bit.
Since starting the diet I am down to 279lbs.

My lifts have been both good and bad. I had to reset my squat because I had stalled. But even with the reset, my squat struggled the first couple weeks of the low carb eating.
Same with my deadlift. It completely hit a wall this last cycle and I will be reseting it for the next.
On the flip side, while my bench struggled a bit the first week after starting the low carb diet, I bounced back in weeks 2 and 3 to set PRs (Extremely clean 310x2).
And my OHP was not affected at all and I set a new PR of 175x2.

So, that's a quick catch up. I'll be starting the next cycle tuesday and intend to begin logging again.

Roger has them too. We need to disinfect this board, it appears.

Glad to hear you got some equipment for home. Did you get a bench unit, or just benching in the rack?

Looks like you've made some nice progress on 5/3/1 Josh! Wow starting Cycle 9 or10!! I'll be starting Cycle 8 next week and have really enjoyed the progress so far! Slightly jealous of the home gym setup!

Thanks Hunterace. Yeah, the shingles kind of sucked, but it was only a few weeks.
The home setup is awesome, I don't see myself ever going back to the gym. However, things may change when it's 100 degrees outside!.

Thanks Steve.
Shingles are brought on by stress, according to my doctor. I guess some of us just need to learn to relax.
The home equipment is awesome, don't know how I did without. I am currently just benching in the rack. It took some serious getting used to, but i have adjusted and it's working out fine.
I also have a bench unit, but not enough room for it in the garage.

Thanks Man. 5/3/1 has been a good experience. You know that by now if you have made it to cycle 8.

Thanks Jim. I just needed a break from the forums. But I continued to put in work with the iron. Thanks for the good welcome back.

Awesome Josh. I love my home gym! I do miss some company sometimes, but I don't miss any of the hammerheads getting in the way!

Good to hear the shingles didn't last too long. That's not always the case, so good you dodged anything really serious.

I doubt benching or pressing will ever desert you! Squats and Deads will get where you want them soon enough.

And quit worrying already!
