Thank you, markievich. I'm a big fan of quick workouts too. I'll try to focus a bit more and cut out on the BS. Oddly, BS'ing at the gym is NOT a strong suit. It just happened to work out that way these last two sessions.

Some guys do that, and it can be ok if you start light and build over time, but if my opinion singles should be done only when you feel 100%. Too much at stake. Feeling wobbly or breathing heavy with heavy weight scares me.

I hear ya. The Boomerang Channel and Banana Splits in this house. I ran across a Three Stooges episode the other day. Mom asked the four year old, "What's Daddy watching?" Without saying anything, the four year old got a sly grin on her face, made a "V" out of the index and middle fingers of her right hand, pointed them towards me, and made a poking motion. Good to see some things transcend generations...and genders.

Just a couple of things.

First, I blew it. I figured my deads from a wrong 1RM. I figured from 380. It should have been 375. So, my lifts are 5 pounds heavier than they should have been.

Secondly, I think I could have made better choices for assistance work. This combination didn't seem to work well for me this time. Perhaps I was going too heavy on the shrugs. I haven't done them in YEARS. I thought it would be cool to stick them in again, just for kicks. I used to be able to crank out 315+. However, I have never used them as a chaser for my deadlifts.

We'll see how things go for the duration of this cycle, but down the road I might knock off all assistance work on the single effort workouts (weeks 1 & 3). For two reasons; time and stamina. The off weeks (weeks 2 & 4), I'd put more effort into the aux. lifts. But I've found this week that especially after squats and deads, I'm shot. I don't want to do curls. I just want to drink chocolate milk.

With shrugs, some of us have caught the bug and started to do Rippetoe shrugs. They might be worth taking a look at. They are basically a rack pull with a power shrug. About 7:45 in the video Ripp gets after them.
