Cheers all.

Thursday 11th October

Raw Bench Press - 20kg x 6, 40kg x 3, 60kg x 3, 80kg x 1, 100kg x 1, 120kg x 1

3 Boards on -

140kg/308lb x 1
140kg/308lb x 1
140kg/308lb x 1
100kg/220lbs x 10

Slingshot Bench - 100kg x 10, 10, 10

Wasn't going to train until the weekend, but on the way home I felt some snap action in my elbow while driving and I thought 'this is how it starts!'. That's what happened in S.Korea the year I didn't train, I started to get some aches and pains and before I knew it I had snapped all my shit up!

Not gonna happen again!

Not lifting causes injuries. Fact.

Tidy little session.

I will, guys I have something I'd like your opinion on:

Despite my Mark Bell tailored routine, I'm considering moving into a Sheiko-esque thing for a while. A few reasons:

1) No spotter. And for a subtle psychological nuance that I have, when I can't do something "all in" I find it hard to motivate myself. That's not an ideal 'condition' to have (!), but it's something I'm conscious of and I think this is possible why I've struggled to get into the gym on week days. Cos when I get to the gym I know I'm not going to be able to do the programme as it's supposed to be done (all out on ME days).

2) Perhaps I need a change. The WSB stuff while awesome just isn't appealing to me right now. Maybe that's cos I'm losing weight/strength or whatever. But mentally I'm not as on it.

3) I have less and less time to think about stuff I need to do. WSB requires thinking time, and my thinking time is wrapped up in other things right now. Something laid out for me may be easier mentally.

4) Related to no spotter, it's harder and harder to psyche up big for the lone workouts. That's something I'm sure I'll get used to but without that element of safety it's hard.

Call me crazy or I'm talking crap but just some thoughts swirling around the old noggin at the moment.

Lifting well (IMO of course) despite losing weight.

Personally, I can't find a half decent spotter for the life of me. In such cases, I guess you can only go to 90% or thereabouts for safety reasons. It certainly seems as if WSB is not suited for you at this moment in time so it's clear a change is totally necessary. You seem to know a great deal about lifting and also know plenty about what's right for you. Others would probably stubbornly stick with WSB but there's no doubt you'll figure out what's best for you. End of the day, it's all about getting the best results with the time/space/equipment etc. you have at your disposal.

P.S What you said made plenty of sense to me at least.

I think the Sheiko plan sounds great. All 4 of those thoughts are right on the money.

That's where I am at. I've been doing the same thing for a long time now. I'm mentally slipping not because of the effectiveness or the program, but because it's becoming a grind.

Take 3 months and play. Do whatever you want. That's what I am going to do after this meet.

Everyone needs a reset from time to time.

Thanks, this is it really it's just frustrating and de motivational. I knew it would be even before September, I said something to that effect to Al over email about changing the routine. But I decided to stick it out for the time being. On any given evening if I know I need to go out and nail a max, but at the same time I know I won't be able to do that it doesn't bode well for my enthusiasm you know?

Thanks Mike. I know you've had experience on both sides of the frequency pyramid.

Yeah, it goes back to old Bill Starr. He would make a big deal out of yearly/monthly variances. It all seemed a bit voodoo/hippy when I was younger but with perspective it makes more sense.

I've been thinking about it a little more, talking it through with some mates and looking at some old logs. I think I'm going to go back to what I was doing earlier this year which was basically the second (of three) incarnation of what Steve and I talked about in the "I.S" thread. It'll be something like 3-4 full body sessions a week which isn't that different from Sheiko but the rep/set scheme is a lot more instinctive. So something like a 'daily max' and then a few back offs either with 80-90% of that number. I figure that'll give me enough free reign to do as I please on most days and if I miss a day then it's not the end of the world as it'll be full body's.

Still thinking but that's looking more like it.
