Thanks Fellas! Yeah, I'll make weight no trouble.

Anyway, interesting day at the office today. I've been obsessing about my deadlift lately, so decided to try some things. Very interesting results. SOmething Facz said in LtL's thread sparked an idea about wider stance, then BtB mentioned to me about Sumos to bring up a weak area. Sumos seemed MUCH easier than conventional and wider stance conventional did feel easier than narrow too. Obviously tough to tell as I didn't max out. But interesting nontheless. Check out the videos and tell me what you think.

Friday, cycle 5, week 4 deload

Swings 2x

OHP:
5x 95, 100, 105 (Wider hands and stance seems better Kit! Thanks!)

Underhand Lat Pulldown
5x 8x 200

Deadlift (conventional, all wider than normal stance which pushed hands out a bit too):
5x 215, 235, 250

Sumo:
10x 135
1x 225, 275
2x 1x 315

Conventional (wider stance and hands):
2x 1x 315

Alternated the sumo and conventional in video. First time I've ever done sumo. Videos are in order.

Was surprised at how easy sumo felt and I don't really know what I'm doing. I just tried to copy what I saw LtL and Facz doing in thier videos. However, I'm not getting crazy here, 315 is about 60-70 lbs below my max.

Sumo is much easier on my back and this is the first time ever I have felt hamstring, hip and butt soreness after deadlifting.

Anyway, for sure let me know what you think. I alsways assumed I was better suited to conventional as I have longish arms, but I also have a longish back and shorter legs, so maybe that makes a difference.

Also, my quads are always sore (like for the past year really) whereas my hamstrings hardly ever are unless I pull them which hasn't happened in a while.

So I assumed my quads were always working more than my lazy hamstrings. Well, maybe it's the opposite. Maybe my lazy quads hurt all the time because they've been forced to actually do something (since I've learned to squat this past year) instead of their usual nothing, while my hamstrings don't hurt because finally the other side of my leg is doing something.

ANyway, I'm obviously rambling, but I am curious to hear some opinions as it was a fascinating day.

There you go. Always something new in the gym even doing the same damn lift over and over again.

Have a good weekend everybody!

First off, glad to see you didn't go crazy on sumos. Good to take things slow.

All good. I think working both may be very beneficial. It certainly work hurt to try both. Sumos helped me.

Your form looked pretty good for a first go around. Sometimes we just have to ignore the leverages and go by feel. There are so many factors at play, from weaknesses and strength to whatever, that's it's hard to say until we try which variation just flat out works better.

I wouldn't get heavy, heavy on sumo for at least a month or two. Take some time to get the feel for them, do rep work, and see what happens.

This learning experience can be thing but good. I spent a year doing only sumps and learned:

A) I have weaknesses!
B) I stink at sumos.

The pulls looked smoothe. Good job keeping your consentration with the disruption. My family has strict orders to stay out of the garage when I'm lifting. If they do "pop" out I usually just stop my set and start over. Too distracting.

Great work mike. Deads look good. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this supposed to be a deload session? That deload session was heavier than some peoples workouts.

Sumos can be a strange beast. Tried them for a while with decent results and found they aren't too far behind my conventional. Actually hit PRs at one point. anyways, keep smashing

Sumo looked solid, and so did the wider stance conventional. Take your time with the sumo and let it work in. You will start to hit some mucles that you have been missing and it will pay off.
