Nice work Mike. I see those chains lingering back there. You ever use them much lately?

Nope. I have accumulated a bunch of stuff over the years but I rarely use most of it. I have chains, bands, 2 power bars, okie dl bar, oly bar,SSB,cambered bar, buffalo bar, olympic easy curl bar, GHR, plus a bunch of other odds and ends. I really just use the power bar, oly bar,SSB,rack, and bench.

Nice discipline! If I had those toys, I would talk myself into ways to get 'em out and play with 'em whether it fit the plan or not!

Why do you do SSB Squats Mike? Seems to me any benefit for your shoulders would be counterbalanced by the way the bar forces the lifter into sort of a hunchback position? Or is that the reason to do them, the bar forces you to fight back against being in a bad position?

And how come you don't deadlift very often?

Nice numbers btw. That's a hell of a total!

Hack away at anything which isn't essential. Do what you love, and do it often. Fazc.

Thanks Mike. The bar pushes the weight forward (Look at how the weights are pushed out in front of you instead of directly in line with the bar) and sits very high on the shoulders. The combination of the two makes you have to fight like hell to stay upright and from getting bent over when you squat. It works the hell out of your back and "core", in a way a regular squat does not. I highly suggest you give one a shot one day but I warn you to tread lightly. That bar will put a hurtin on you that you have to experience!

I have pulled alot in the past. I found over time that my squat style (close stance and parallel or below) that my squat works both lifts. If I deadlift often it tears the living crap of me while the squat is more user friendly. I will front squat or use the SSB on my second squat day to hit the "deadlift" muscles a little more plus it gives me a break from the straight bar. I will pull before a meet more often.

Mike, I never asked, but how long have you been competing?

I'll make sure to stop by your house next time I'm down there and strike a deal then.
