Great lifting Big J - and many gratz on the RDL PR of 295

Perhaps a powerlifting routine, since you obviously love moving heavy ass iron and to bring that squat up to where you would like it to be.

Thanks for the continued feedback, encouragement and advice from everyone!
Well, instead of looking at wholesale changes, add some things. Tweak some things. Take the things you know are working and perhaps remodel them

Default Update

I am experiencing symptoms of being overtrained or having over reached, whatever you want to call it.
I am experiencing clearly noticeable (and at times out right uncomfortable) hypertension throughout my body and have started to have trouble sleeping. I have not experienced any symptoms such as appetite change or muscle loss, but my body is clearly telling me to ease up.
I have been going hard and it's caught up. I was going to miss a few workouts this week, starting with last friday, but I went on friday anyway, even though I shouldn't have. I had a great session, but I am now legit fried.
Anyway, that's that.

As of right now I think what I am going to do is move to a 3 day push/pull/lower style split. Anchored around the bench press, deadlift and squat. I will do this just for the time being. I have to take a week off from lifting in earlier March as I am being sent out of town for work. At that point I have every intention of starting a 5/3/1 variation.

Just wanted to share this with everyone.

Agreed. I think I did the right thing by keeping this simple for this long, but it's time to change things. I guess it is better to keep it simple for to long than it is to complicate things to early or to fast.

I am really leaning toward 5/3/1 right now.

Thanks Squatter! I appreciate the encouragement.
I am going to stay in the realm of a powerlifting routine. Because you said it best, I love moving heavy ass iron!!! However it is also important to me to make muscle mass gains.
So while strength and power is priority, looking strong is also a goal. So I guess any routine I do will have a "PowerBuilding" approach to it.
Big but boring has peaked my interest as of late.

Steve, thanks for being so supportive and so helpful. I really appreciate it.
With your help and the help of some others, this routine has been successful beyond my expectations. Not only that, but I have learned a lot from you guys as of late. And this is the reason while I am hesitant to change things up completely.
Having said that, my gut is telling me it's time to make a change. 5/3/1 has really peaked my interest for a few different reasons. I think I want to give it a few months. Probably spring into summer.
However, I do not expect 5/3/1 to be or think it is the end all be all. And I am more than just a little interested in eventually getting back to "non-coventional/less than popular" power building methods such as the ones we merely started to touch on while I was running this routine.

Hope you are feeling better and able to SFW iron soon Big J

The BBB template of 531 is deceivingly tough and will most definitely add size as it did for me. I have also found squatting as an assistance lift to be a big bonus to bring my squat up.

Do it to it. You'll nail just about anything you try, and the periodization might help.

You doing the powerlifting singles variation or standard 531?

Thanks Squatter! It's nothing a few days off and some home cooking won't take care of. I'm actually already feeling better. I'll tell you what though, sunday I was pretty damn fried. Not a good feeling.
So you've tried the BBB template and got some good gains, that's good to know, thanks. And squatting to bring up my squat, what a novel idea!

Thanks BtB. That's a pretty big compliment.
I'm thinking the standard variation, however I'm not completely decided yet. I'm more comfortable with trying that and maybe adding the singles in down the road. Still, I haven't made any decisions and nothing is set in stone.

I still the standard version will get it done. If you feel any lift is giving you grief, consider singles.
