Has got to be awesome teaching your son to lift weights. Man, I wish I had someone that had my knowledge back when I was 15 and getting into lifting that could have shown me all the wrong things I was doing.

My son will be born in May. I have been picturing how I am going to teach him to lift weights in my head for years. I think I'm going to buy a marker chalk board, like they are using in schools now and write the terms and stuff on there and teach him like it's a school class since there is so much to learn at once. I want him to be really strong by the time he is 21.

I think I am going to get him into lifting around 14-16 depending on his build and then just go from there.

Your son is going to be a strong dude. 500lb squat at 21 years old is ridiculous strength. I consider a 500lb deadlift strong. Some of you guys on this forum is way out of my league!

You have no idea how cool it really is to train with your kid. When I first thought of it I figured it would be fun, but it goes far beyond that. Nothing better than to be struggling with a heavy squat and hear your kid yell, "C'mon Daddy you can do it." It's a fantastic bonding experience and I get to teach him the things that I find important rather than his fiends convincing him to do a bunch of curls to get huge.

As always guys, thanks for checking in with us. We've got a fun workout planned for this afternoon.

Warm-ups
Body Squats x 10
Jumping Jacks x 15
Front skips x 20 yards down and 20 yards back
Side Shuffle x 20 yards down and 20 yards back
Front to Back Leg Swings x 10 each leg
Side to Side Leg Swing x 10 each leg
Medium Sprint x 20 yards down and 20 yards back
Lunge Walk x 10 steps down and 10 steps back
Back Pedal with Turn x 20 yards down and 20 yards back

Speed Endurance
4 Cone Drill x 3
100 Yard Sprint x 2
40 Yard Sprint x 2
5 Yard Sprint x 8

Pushing
Son: Push-Ups x 8, 8, 8
Me: Bar Dips - +55 lb x 8, 8, 9

Triceps
Son: Medium Band x 10, 8, 6
Me: Lying Triceps Extension - 100 lb x 12, 10, 9

Curls
Son: Light Band x 12, 10, 8
Me: Barbell Curls - 100 lb x 12, 10, 8

Notes:
I thought I was going to die during the 100 yard sprints, my kid beat me by about 5 yards

But I caught him on the 40 yard sprints The 5 yard sprints are a blast and we just work on getting off the ball hard and fast. We start from a three point stance and use the football to start; can't move before the ball or it's an extra rep.

Lifting weights after a btough conditioning session sucks bad. I much prefer to lift first and then run. But I realize that speed is going to be more important for him so I'm willing to adapt for the next few months. As always, this was a blast. But I'm looking forward to the rest day tomorrow.

No! I have a new goal to beat him in the 100, his new goal is to stay ahead of me If I beat him he'll never hear the end of it; no way a 235 lb 48 year old broke down cowboy should beat an 11 year old kid that plays two sports - lol

Oh my gads I'm frackin' dying...
I left it ALL in the gym today!!!

Warm-ups (Both of us)
Body Squats x 10
Jumping Jacks x 15
Squat Jumps x 5
Burpees x 10, 10
Sit-Ups x 10, 10, 10

MY SON'S WORKOUT:

Goblet Squats
50 lbs x 7, 7, 10

Sled Rows
160 lbs x 20 yards x 2 laps

Push-Ups
BW x 8, 8, 8, 8

1 Arm Db Row
35 lbs x 2, 3, 5 (each arm)

Triceps Band Extensions
Medium Band x 10, 10, 10

Prowler Pushes
6 laps and worked up to 200 lbs x 30 yards

MY WORKOUT:

Trap Bar Deadlift
250 lbs x 20 reps
I only rested and breathed at lockout, holding the weight

Sled Rows
225 lbs x 20 yards x 2 laps

Bar Dips
+55 lbs x 9, 8, 7

1 Arm Db Row
165 lbs x 2, 3, 11 (each arm)

Lying Triceps Extensions
105 lbs x 12, 8, 6

Prowler Pushes
300 lbs x 30 yards x 6 laps

NOTES:
That was a crazy brutal workout for an old geezer like me. I really wanted to show my son what real effort was all about. I'm not sure he completely "got it" but he did his best to match me. So all-in-all it was totally worth it. Going to try and add 100 lbs to the TBDL in the next 3 months

I'm just glad I took it a little easy on the Trap Bar, I was going to start at 300 but thought I'd save a little for the long workout. Glad i did, I was wiped out by the end.
