I thought you Reds never walked alone.

That was indeed a great day aside from the hooligan chant. Nice squat PR!

Hope that flu doesn't hit too hard.

Thanks Mark, didn't test it for ages, went up 15kg in about 3 months!

Thanks Steve. probably won't hit another PR this week as I am recovering from flu.

When we do we get abused! Was called a 'white bastard' by some black guy yesterday! My wife is black and I have now been racially abused as often as she has in Leicester!

Thanks Imp

Wednesday February 15
Well today sucked balls but I almost made a PR. Had bad flu for a few days, thought I'd recovered but felt weak. Wanted to go home after the deadlift but stuck it out.
On the plus side, it gave me some new ideas which is always good.

Deadlift
bar warm up
80x5
100x3 - Did these and the 80s sumo style but I don't like it to be honest
120x2
140x1
155x1 - This actually felt ok
170x0 - Got it past my knees halfway to my thighs. Been planning to do rack pulls anyway and it's clear my weakness is locking out. Both fails at 170kg have seen the bar fly up to me knees.
155x1
155x0 - Bar slipped out of hand
140x2
I think heavy single and maybe 3 back off doubles like Faz and Steve recommend is the way to go.

Pendlay Rows
60x3
72.5x3 - Felt shit
60x5x3
May do a ramping 5x5 in this Madcow style

One arm rows
30x10
35x8
40x6

Hammer Curls
22.5x4
20x6
17.5x8

I have some random thoughts which I will post in the Strength Thread later. Most of it has probably already been said by more experienced people however.

Post it up. Even if it's been said a thousand times before most of us forget half of what we know.

Get well Kuyt.

Nice work Kuyt. Bummer about the grip, but next time you're going to nail it and them some.

Hehe Imps generally don't deadlift 5pps though!

Thanks Brute. My grip usually dies just at lockout.

Thursday 16 February
A less strenous workout on paper though it wasn't easy by any stretch! Tomorrow is the last session before I finally transfer to my original 6 day plan on Sunday. I will only be doing one light session between Sunday 26th Feb and Wednesday 29th Feb cos I am off to see Rammstein in Ireland 5 days rest (25th-1st) should be enough to recharge some batteries.

Squat
70x5
90x3
110x3x3
Quite hard this was. As I am going to be squatting 3 times a week, this will probably be changed to a ramping 92.5, 102.5, 112.5 next week.

RDL's
80x5
100x5x3
Never enjoy gripping the bar on these. 105 next week.

Shrugs
80x5
100x5
105x5
110x5
110x5
Will do 110x5 for 3 sets next week.

Weighted Decline crunches
+25kg: 4 x 8

Various twisting exercises for obliques.

An experienced bodybuilder told me not to do weighted side bends or any weighted oblique work because it would cause my waist to increase in size.

Tomorrow is bench and I am planning to work to 107.5kg for a single (managed 6 x 105kg singles last week). Would like to have another shot at 112.5, this time without a spotter but we will see. After that, I think 5 x 90kg trebles will do nicely. I am confident of nailing those. Power cleans also on the menu

Good training and good progress kuyt! As for the deadlift sticking point, try going superheavy on shrugs for a while to get used to handle weight at the top.

That's such nonsense. How big does he think the waist muscles can get? The size of quads?

Looking forward to your new journey Kuyt. Smash it!

My grip ruins my chances of even shrugging 3pps right now. I am focusing on working up using 3 sets of 5. Adding 5kg to the shrugs each week till I pause then adding 2.5kg instead. Shrugging 4pps will take ages but it needs to be done.
I am gonna add rack pulls as my deadlift problem is knee to lockout. I have easily got 170kg to the knee twice, the second time halfway up the thigh.

He is strong and experienced but that doesn't always mean someone is right. On another note, I have never seen him or his training companions squat or deadlift but they are bloody strong. Just imagine how strong they would be if they did heavy compounds!
