Some very strong work in here. Those cleans and push presses are impressive. Aren't you very tall too? It can't be easy for a tall guy to do overhead work.

Thanks Tann. Yeah the 3 year contract sucks, but it dropped my monthly payment by $20. I didn't mind signing one the first time around, but a new one after only a year isn't cool. Fortunately, it all got resolved, so I'm happy.

And yeah, I'm between 6'4" and 6'5", so cleans and presses have a fairly long way to go, but I figure it about evens out with the additional muscle mass I can build, or so I tell myself.

Thanks Kuyt! Sometimes I miss my old gym, no contract, separate areas for lifting and cardio, but oh well. Its what I get for moving to a small town.

Thanks Mike! Yeah, cleans are tough when I slow down, and I'm not particularly quick anyway. Still, one day I want a 365+ clean.

Thanks BtB! Its amazing how anabolic food is. I'll send you a PM this afternoon, looking forward to lifting together.

Another BIG day today. Squat max PR, bench rep PR, rows felt good. I couldn't ask for anything more. Unless its that they change the music in the gym, but I can tune that out. Or get enraged by it, either way, it works.

Skipped power cleans today, think I may leave them for the weekends. My feet have been hurting, and jumping with near 200 extra pounds isn't helping them.

Squat
Bar x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 2
275 x 1
290 x 1
290 x 1
290 x 1
290 x 1 - PR singles @ 290
325 x 1 - PR + 10 pounds, 365 by september
240 x 4
240 x 4
240 x 2 - did minimum reps today, but they all felt good.

Bench
Bar x 10
135 x 5
185 x 3
205 x 1 - this feels like nothing these days
185 x 10
185 x 8
185 x 5 - 23 reps. Last year at this time, I honestly was beginning to think I would never get more than 4 reps @ 185. I couldn't make it budge. Big milestone for me today

BB Row
Bar x 10
125 x 10
125 x 10
125 x 10 - wrists are still feeling good on these.

Great day overall. Very pleased with a new squat max, but the bench rep increase is a bigger deal to me. Singles I'm good at, reps I've always been awful. Here's to some big gains this year!

Videos

290 - pretty happy with the form here. Decently upright

325 - hips rose too fast, but I completed the lift, and it looks a little better than 315, so I'll take it.

Awesome lifts, Brute! Big numbers, nice!

Just a thought. I haven't seen you squat in a while, so maybe this is nothing, but you seem to kind of slow down and ease into the hole, and therefore don't get much bounce back up. Obviously you have plenty of power anyway, but I wonder if speeding up a little and catching some bounce might help you hit that 365 and beyond faster and easier.

Thanks Mike! I may have to try getting into the hole faster and see how that goes. I've been having trouble keeping my back tight through the lift, so I had slowed everything down in an attempt to fix that, but once tightness becomes more automatic, I'll definitely try to use the stretch reflex to help coming back up.

Ok day, DB snatches didn't go as well as hoped, but progress still happened.

DB Snatch
55 x 1
65 x 1
75 x 1
85 x 1
90 x 1 (3 misses with left and right)
80 x 2
90 x 1
85 x 1
80 x 2

DB Row
75 x 8
75 x 8

Lat Pulldown
110 x 10
110 x 10
110 x 10

So, progress on every lift, but snatches were a bit haphazard. Still, 85 felt light, and doubles at 80 were easy.

Great deadlifting today. No records, but things felt more smooth and the new deadlift routine is starting out well.

Dead
135 x 5
225 x 5
315 x 3
385 x 1
415 x 1
415 x 1
415 x 1
415 x 1 - 4 reps, will add 5 pounds next week
425 x 1 - hit "heavy" single, will add 15 pounds next week
370 x 4
370 x 4
370 x 2 - 10 reps, will add 5 pounds next week

BTNP
Bar x 10
95 x 5
135 x 5
135 x 5
135 x 5
135 x 5 - these felt a lot more stable than last week, so will add 5 pounds next week

Done. On deadlift days, I am just going to get in and then get out. I'm dropping the heavy single volume to 5 singles and going for some low reps after with a lighter weight. I'm hoping this will let me recover more quickly but still provide enough stimulation to gain. Its been working great for squat and bench, so I want to run it with deads for a bit and see what happens.

Gym anecdote: Some dildo licker at the gym today tried to have a power trip at my expense. The conversation went like this
DL: I saw you get in trouble last week for being too loud.
Me: Yeah, the kind of sucked
DL: You better lighten the weight up or I'll go tell them you're being too noisy again
Me: Ok, cool. Go run and tell daddy
DL: I'm serious!
Me: Turned away and pulled 415.

Fin
