Few things....

First todays workout:

Behind the back shruggs: 135 x 15, 2 x 225 x 15, 2 x 315 x 15, 405 x 15
superset with DB shruggs: 85 x 12, 2 x 105 x 12, 2 x 115 x 12, 125 x 15

Seated DB press: 90 x 15, 105 x 12, 115 x 10, 125 x 8
superset with BB rear delt raise: 4 x 65 x 15

2min rest

Machine Lateral raise: 4 x 125 x 15
superset machine rear delt raise: 4 x 80 x 15

2min rest (took some MBCAA)

Cable front raise w/ rope: 3 x 30 x 15
superset with face pulls: 3 x 65 x 15

Seated machine press: 4 x 150 x 25

Cardio: Stairmaster x 20min. Alternating 55/90 steps per min every 3min.

Notable: Seated press - 125 x 8. Might be a PR

Now, i was explaining to a guy i was working out with about how to approach the gym mentally.

He just signed up with Simple Fitness and we have worked out around each other for years. He has always trained with heavy wt. 3 - 8 reps.

Well today he stepped into the darkside! As heavy as you can go for at least 8-15 reps. Supersets, high tempo, high volume.

So before he begin to get discouraged, i begin to teach him about the mentality he will need for the next 12+ wks and i thought to share this with the people who read my log...

The gym is not a casual, fun, social experience. Sometimes it can be but you must be able to distinguish between those days and work days.

The gym is where you BREAK down muscle tissue and TEAR muscle fibers. I can't think of anything that you have fun BREAKING or TEARING. The gym is rough and it hurts because it's suppose to! Draging yourself from exercise to exercise, set after set, rep after rep, it takes clear focus on your goal.

The gym is where you make your muscles hungry, you work them until they are starving.

And when you leave you check them into Rehab. You feed them, you care for them, you help them recover. You do this by way of proper nutrition, proper supplements for extra help, and rest.

Please please REST. Take rest as serious as you take hitting the weights. Every BODY needs a break. Rest your body and it will thank you.

Then you wake up and do it all over again. lol

Last, I want to answer the question "What do you mean by down payment on your future"

I see my high volume trainning as paying the bills. Gets me from workout to workout, month to month. But the heavy wt is more of a down payment for my future, building a strong foundation that i can always refer back to. Once you build true strength muscle memory allows to to always be able to call on it when need be.

I might not instantly see the results of heavy wt training but i know its going to be there for me when it's time to cash in.

I look at my faith in a similar way, if i keep making down payments when it time to cash in i can enjoy afterlife in the Kingdom...

Some great insights. A lot to think about as we are making our down payments.
