Nice work Aurik. Remember to get that head up and lead with the head.

Awesome deadlifting Ken. I'm loving the stretch from deficit pulls at the moment but haven't gone heavy on them yet. May have to try that soon...

Awesome work Ken. I'm so proud to be part of such a great community of serious lifters both at the gym and on MAB.

Great work! I see a 500lb pull in no time. Where was your grip fatigued at? Was it in the hands or in the forearm?

My grip wasn't fatigued at all from the deadlifts. It was fatigued from carrying the 50lb dumbbells halfway across the gym, then doing 10 slow measured step-ups. I then set them down for a couple minutes and walked them back to the racks. The fingers were a little tired but the majority of the fatigue was in the forearms. The grip never gave out but it was DEFINITELY bitching something fierce.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Steve. As you watch me set up, you can watch my head coming up and butt coming down, but that's as high as I can get my head with the deficit. With full plates in there, my head position looks much better. I'll get a vid next time I pull without the deficit to show you.

They're a LOT of fun, but they drain your arse and hamstrings like nothing else

Thanks Tim! I'm just glad that I keep improving week after week.

Thanks, Nard! I'm about -><- this close to hitting the deadlift goal I set for myself about 10 months ago (and over a year early). Guess I'll just have to set a new goal then won't I?

Wednesday 5/4/11
Benching by the Numbers

Nothing too exciting today, except that I lost my workout log a few weeks ago, so I don't have it with me in the gym. This is kinda disappointing because I don't know exactly what I've got to do to set a new PR, so I'm kinda winging it, but it's all good. I started with the Diesel Crew Shoulder Warmup, and then went straight to the bench:

Bench Press (Warmup): 45/5 45/5 95/5 135/5 185/2
Bench Press (3@70%): 215/3
Bench Press (3@80%): 245/3
Bench Press (3+@90%): 275/6 (good, but not a PR)
DB Bench Press: 75/10 75/10 75/10 75/7 75/10
Barbell Row: 275/3+2 295/3+1+1 (added straps) 315/3+1 (PR)

And that was it. Next week I think I'm going to just hit the requisite reps and then do a few singles at 315. Again, not a PR, but getting used to moving heavy weights again at 90%+. I may have not had a PR on the 275, but I was hitting every rep with 100% effort and getting reasonably good bar speed in the process. I probably had another rep or two in the tank, but I got 6 good clean reps, so that's good. The DB bench, I just picked a weight that seemed right... only to realize that the last time I did flat DB bench it was "only" around 50lbs. Oops. Well, I got almost a full 5 sets of 10 in there, even if I did have to rest more than my usual 105s on the last set. In any case, the jackhammers were moving those dumbbells regularly every minute or so.

The BB rows are getting JUST where I want them. Now I'm going to try to finish out 3 sets of 5 at 275/295/315 without having to put the bar down, then start working the weight up.

Upper body trashing complete.

Really beefy lifts all around Aurik. Any videos coming of rows or bench?

I'm gonna try to get a vid of my singles next week. It's hard to get one guy to give you a decent handoff and get another guy to record. But I'll definitely try. For one thing I want to get my name up on the 1100+ thread
