Today was very interesting to say the least. I think I am sick. After benching Saturday, I started to get frequent liquid dumps. I thought it was my Celiac acting up. Last night at dinner, Mrs Squatter noticed I was not eating my pork back ribs with the usual vigor. (They are my favorite meal) I slept OK Saturday night, but dreamt alot. This morning, the liquid diarrhea continued, but seemed to settle down, so I decided to go train with the Crew. I ended up having to hold in a dump during my 20 repper squat, which actually seemed to improve my form, as my spotter said I was getting tighter as the set wore on lol. Wasn't funny at the time, but it is now. You should have seen me trying to dash for the washroom while holding it in with all my might while gasping for air! Made it with about 1 second to spare and couldn't even close the stall door.

This sort of thing happens because of my wacko immune system. It's a very vigorous and aggressive system, which is thankfully tamed enough by Silver Biotics and thus it has stopped attacking my body. I always seem to get sort of sick while it battles the bugs, but not enough to really think I am ill unless I pick up on the hints, such as not inhaling my ribs.

I'll be better Monday and ready to hit it hard on Wednesday again.

I discussed in length my tremor situation with the Crew today, so that they know what's going on. They did pick up on it tho before the discussion, as i was trembling more than usual they said. At the end of the discussion, they said they love training me and we will work and get around this. That really made me wanna cry.

Deadlifts
Raw
225 X3
315 X2
405 X1
455 X1
485 X1
Add VG's (Versagripps)
500 X0
455 X4 Vid
Was a bit surprised that the 500 was a miss, as the 485 felt just fine. The bar started to roll out of right hand just after lockout, so I put on VG's for the 500 attempt. Got it off the ground about 6 inches, but that was it. So I did soem reps at 455, which I thought would feel lighter than they did, and then stop pulling for the day.

Squat
145 X5
195 X4
235 X3
285 X3
325 X5
325 X6 Vid
235 X20
Pretty darn happy with the squats today!

Leg Press
4.5PPS X8
4.5PPS X8
4.5PPS X8

GM's
185 X6
185 X6
185 X6

GHR's
BW X6
BW X6
BW X6

Sorry you're feeling sick, and hopefully you'll be good in a day or two, you're never sick!
Great training again, not unexpected ! Between your positive attitude and the strong support around you, no surprise you succeed and inspire! Keep smashing everything Super Jim!

Right now the first priority should be to avoid any kind of injury. You are doing some awesome lifting since last 3-4 months. Shouldn't take a chance of injury ...
Indeed Ravi, I was thinking this as well. No more heavy benching for quite some time. I am thinking of doing 6-8 rep scheme. I know I can handle 225 at this weight and I will slowly work my way up.

Thanks Ravi! I heard 20 reppers are good for size!

Thanks Gabe!! Changes are planned to reduce volume and weight, but go back to 4 days per week.

Thanks Jay!! I never get full blown sick, thankfully!

So, my arms were bugging me this weekend, and now my knees are a bit too achy for my liking. I have now decided that it's likely best for me to train 4 days per week, but reduce volume to like 3, maybe 4 sets and squat, bench, pull, and OHP just once per week. My knees are definitely telling me that they do not want to pull and squat in the same session anymore. I also will not be squatting and pulling heavy in the same week anymore. I will alternate that. I also realize I need to do some core work.

Even tho I have the cell structure and health of a 25 year old, I cannot continue to lift like one. I also thought going to 3 days per week would work, but no way. I tend to go too hard on the 3 sessions thinking I am more recovered when I am not. Even tho I was sort of ill this weekend and my tremors are acting up big time, I gotta grab a brain and get back to listening to my body, which I did do for so many months up until recently.

One problem fo rme has been listening to all the talk that squatting 2X per week is optimal, and that squatting and pulling in the same session is a good thing, and blah, blah, blah. The thing is is that most of all that talk out there does not apply to 50 year old lifters. Its so easy to go off on a tangent in this sport. Gotta stick to a solid gameplan like I had.

Thanks Steve, but I am actually worse today with nauseating knee aches. I am mad at myself for pulling and squatting in the same sesh. I had an issue with this before, and I stopped. Knees got better, and then I stupidly went back to doing it. Although I can squat and pull in the same sesh, and it actually feels good during the session, I pay too big of price after-wards.

If I were your knees I'd be mad too.

Smart move separating them.

Still a very strong session Jimbroski!

Indeed DZ - they are rebelling today. I actually really enjoy squatting after deads, but realize I cannot do that anymore. Sumo deads also irritate my knees.

Feel better soon, Jim. Even though I'm pulling ALOT less weight than you, my back couldn't handle Squats and DL on the same day. I'd be a question mark all week and would be unable to get in and out of my Civic each day.

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit beat up Jim, but as hard headed as you are that is usually what it takes to get through to you and force a change Fifty or not, everyone has to find the combination of volume and intensity that their body can handle. And I know you will!
