You could be an experiment of sorts, let them test the link between lifting and birdshot and make gobs of the money.

I have no idea what to say, no clue what i would do in that situation. Im behind you one thousand percent. I've been watching Dave Tate really close. Just a few weeks out of hip surgery, squatting 185lbs. Might read some of his notes, he goes into what he feels now looking back on how he beat his body up. Which ever way you may choose to go, and when you make these decisions just know that you are of huge value. Inspiration and advice. All the best Jim, Ben.

Stay strong brother ... I know it is difficult for you but only you can do it. we all have see that in past how you overcome all the problems ans keep lifting with 100% positive attitude ... Lifting is important part of our life but there are certain things which are equally important and needs you. I hope you get what I'm trying to convey ... It is still an assumption that your lifting is causing all the problems but it is yet to be proved ... have some patience brother ... let the docs do their work ... let you got the report from sports medicine doc and then decide ... I'm praying for you brother and very much sure that you will lift again ... There is a reason why we call you super Jim ...

Like some of the others have already pointed out, there are many facets to lifting so still options open to you, at this point.

Not too many years ago, you were thoroughly enjoying cardio challenges of 2+ hrs and doing your lifting alongside it and though it may not be the path you want to follow at this time, it was still something you enjoyed, quite considerably, if I recall correctly.

Yes, you'll be devastated, if you can't lift mega-heavy but you will adapt and you will continue to enjoy weight training; ther's also absolutely nothing to say that a short break of a lot less intensity and a focus on a different aspect won't see you "back in the game" again...sometimes, we don't give our bodies near enough time to recover as they really need, instead we get up, we feel better than we did yesterday and we assume the body is ready...when the body is saying "wtf are you doing!?"

I live with a guy that is constantly having to acknowledge that he cannot do today what he did yesterday and the only way to console him at times is to highlight that at least he did stuff when he could, not much consolation but adpating to what is going on around is as much of a challenge as lifting a heavy weight, at times. Some give in, some find a way to enjoy whatever they can, I think you'll be in the latter group and find a way through.

I'm very sad for you Squat Man. I hope you find a way to keep doing what you love, or find something else enjoyable that will fill the void. Either way, you have the passion to enjoy many things.

Sucks man. Try to find happiness with what you can do. 1:16,000,000 tho? Maybe you should go play the lottery.

Thanks so much everyone. It really means alot to me, as I know it's difficult to comment on all of this.

Heck, if Babs can always figure something out, well then so can I, even tho I am sure my IQ is well below hers.

There is no protocol on how to deal with this, so I will have to figure out something. I simply do not want to give up lifting. I am now thinking that not only does resistance affect the eyes, but also volume. The Docs have only told me so far to cut the weight, but volume is OK. Well, I think they are wrong. With that in mind, perhaps a program with more cardio and less lifting is in order. Perhaps I could do just the 4 core lifts, sort of like the I ain't doing jack shit template in 531. Do that for a few months, and then maybe add in 1 assistance lift if all is well. I would have to keep resistance, sets, and reps in check, and would cap my assistance to 1 lift.

One other thing I have thought of is to always keep my head up, ie never look down while lifting. I think doing so increases pressure in the eyes.

I think I will give my right eye a couple of months to heal up and then start lifting again, taking it oh so slowly.

If the eye hemorrhages again, well, it is what it is. At least I tried and can say I never gave up.

I'll keep my diet and supplement prgram going while I am away from lifting. I will also keep being active on here at MAB.

I will in all likelihood have to quit lifting with the Crew. That makes me very sad and upset, but I cannot justify the expense of the Crew Gym and the Dues to Mrs Squatter if I am not Powerlifting anymore. I can most certainly do a basic program and cardio in the JimGym. Joining the Crew was one of the best days of my life, and leaving them will be one of the worst.

I am so sorry to hear this Jim. Let me say your I really admire your resilient spirit, and dedication to the iron. I think your plan is solid and I hope that it goes as well as possible. I think staying active on the forums is a great idea. I will be lifting with you in mind while you rest, as I'm sure many others here will.
