Thanks jay, Brute, Hitman, Alan, lisa, Ravi, OR, and Steve!

I have had a rough day. My right eye has hemorrhaged AGAIN. I have lost all my vision in the eye. I can only see faint light. It happened in my sleep on Thursday night. I had an emergency appointment with the surgeon today, and the good news is that he said the blood should drain on its own this time, mainly due to the eye having been operated on already. Most of the Vitreous Fluid was removed during the surgery, and thus the blood didn't have much fluid to mix with, and thus it should drain. If after 2 weeks the blood has not, I will require surgery again.

The bad news is that lifting is likely the culprit. There is no way around it, my lifting is causing problems with my eye. I have no idea when or even if I will be able to lift again. As with the Sports Medicine Doc, the Jury is still out, but again, it is not looking good.

There is no research regarding Birdshot and lifting. I am likely the only victim of it who lifts. The surgeons thus do not know what to tell me. I still can't believe I am one in 16 million to get it. Even after this latest incident is cleared up, will it happen again, and if so when? If I layoff lifting for even say, 6 months, will this happen a month later after beginning training again? I do know one thing, the damn Birdshot ain't going anywhere.

I feel like I am being double teamed and whammied. My lifting is teetering on the brink of extinction. I know, i know, lifting is not worth causing harm to my eyes, or my back for that matter. What I am struggling with is the fact lifting gives me a reason to get up everyday. It has become such a big part of my existence. I have absolutely no idea how to live without lifting. I am scared and sick to my stomach. It feels like I am losing a loved one.

I am trying to remain optimistic but it's really hard this time. How do I say goodbye to the sport I love. I can't. I just can't.

Not what I was expecting to see bud . I will to continue to pray for you. I wish i had the right words to say, because you've always supported me, so I'll try and do my best.
We all know how important lifting is to you, but as you said your health has to come first. I would hate to see something much worse happen to you, than your already going through. But it seems the risk is becoming too high. You're one of the most positive and inspirational guys I've ever had the pleasure to know. As quite often in life, hard choices or sacrifices sometimes need to be made. I hope you can possibly figure something out Jim, I really do. Try to keep that positive attitude you have and know that we are here for you.

I don't know what to say man, you've always been someone that inspired and motivate me. It's definitely not fair what's happening. Prayers go out to you.

Jim I am so sorry to hear this.
One of my biggest fears as I get older is won't be able to continue to lift heavy for any number of reasons.
Seriously I have given this a lot of thought out of my own fears.
After your eye makes a fully recovery it might be possible to lift lighter more bodybuilding type training with supersets
Just keep an open mind about whats possible and focus on making a full recovery for now.
Godspeed in healing.

Jim,

I'm devastated for you at this news. You need to do what's best for you, as tough as that may be. You're one hell of a guy, and I'm proud to be associated with you. I don't think I am alone in this sentiment, but if you have to quit lifting, you won't lose my friendship or support. Thoughts and positive energy are headed your way.
