JB'S OLD SCHOOL SEMESTER 4 DAY 4 BACK ME

The program for tonight called for a 4X4 @ 325, 350, 375, and 405. After that, I was to to do 2 singles @450 and then either go for a 5 lb PR or 500. My current gym PR is 470, so I had the option of 475 or 500. I thought after the 2nd 455 grinder single that there was no way I have 500 in me tonight. I thought I had a shot at a 5lb PR tho. Why I loaded 480 instead of 475 I have no idea - bit of a brain fart I guess.

With that said, I am really excited I got the 480 off the ground. Based on past trends, this means I will pull it next time I try it. My pull PR's always seem to happen in 3 stages. First stage or attempt the weight is welded to the floor. The next stage or attempt a month or 2 later, I can get it off the floor. The 3rd and final attempt a few weeks later, I get it to lockout.

I also hope that somebody will be able to pick out my weak or sticky point now after viewing the grinder at 455 and the 480 miss. I know JB will likely be able now to make some adjustments if necessary to work on it.

So ya, I am not disappointed in the least about the 480 miss or not being able to even attempt 500 quite yet. It's gonna happen in a month or 2.

Additionally, I wasn't really fresh as I would normally be before attempting a deadlift max. I know this because my lower back was squawking on the 455 singles. It is fine tonight and no worse for wear - I did not hurt or injure it in any way.

The 500 babe is just playing hard to get. I know I will appreciate and cherish it even more this way knowing I had to work my ass off to get it. It's by no means going to be handed to me on a silver platter.

Everything was done raw tonight. I'm actually quite pleased my grip held up so well right to the end!

Thanks Chad!! Indeed, I likely would have had it now if my lower back was fresh enough. Last weeks deficit deads and last Sunday's squats were tough on it.

Thanks Rich!! I know I wasn't fresh enough because of the back squawking and the fact that 465 flew up in Vegas - much better than 455 felt today. When I go for my maxes at the end of this cycle I have to make sure lower back is fully rested. Prep for Vegas was a light stay loose session followed by 5 days of compelte rest. So, that is what I will be doing when I attempt my maxes.

Nice lifting Jim. Prs sure as hell don't come easy on the big 3 but increment by increment, you'll get to 500 and then you'll look to 600

That was really close! You missed that due to fatigue. The reason why I had you do all the work before was to simulate what your going to find at a meet. You have 3 weeks of training than we will pull it and then some. You just want have all the work before hand!!!!!
