LAS VEGAS WPC WORLD'S MEET UPDATE

I have now received confirmation of my entry from the meet director, Amy Jackson. I am sure it's just a coincidence my Mom's name was also Amy.

Yes I have received your entry. The meet is at the hotel.

Subject: WPC Worlds Vegas

Hi Amy,

I was wondering if you could please confirm my entry for Team Canada into the
Powerlifting Raw Master men on Thursday November 8th. I sent my fee into Bruce
McIntyre. I will just feel better if I know everything is OK as I don't want any
surprises.

Also, is the meet right in the Riviera Hotel? Or is there a separate convention
centre next to it?.

Thanks!

After much thought, I have come up with the following proposed lifts:

Squat:
375
410
425

Bench:
255
265
275

Deadlift:
405
445
470

The primary goal for Vegas is to do better than I did in Vernon. If I place, I place. If I don't, I don't. I can only control what I do.

The openers of each lift are ones that I am sure I could do even in a coma. I did actually miss my first squat in Vernon at 365, but missing 375 in Vegas would be extremely improbable because I know exactly what I did wrong in Vernon. I dive bombed it thinking bury all the way. It was my first lift ever at a meet and I wasn't thinking at all. I corrected it right away and went on to lift 365 and 405. The 410 would represent 5 lb progress. 425 would be an all-time PR. I have squatted that before, but not to legal depth.

The 255 Bench opener would be +12 lbs over my best effort in Vernon. I fairly easily tripled 265 last week (although not paused) with he Crew. Before that, in the JimGym, I paused 255 easily even after being pre-fatigued going for 275 and 270. LtL informed me that he thought the pause on the 270 was legit. This makes me comfortable going for 265 and then 275 for an all-time Paused PR. Bench is tough because you never know how long the judge will make you pause it.

I have deadlifted 405 a million times, so no worries with this opener. 445 is a fairly recent PR. 465 is my current PR. 470 would be an all-time PR. Out of the 3 lifts, deadlifts is the one I am least sure about WRT how I should approach it. Maybe I should open with more than 405, say 425 and then go for 455, and then say even 475 or dare I say 480. I did get 480 off the floor last week. I know what went wrong tho. I lost precious leverage when the bar rolled a bit forward. 440 was my best deadlift in Vernon. I could really use some opinions here.

With this current configuration, I would beat my Vernon results as long as I made my 2nd attempt on squat(410), 1st attempt of 255 on Bench, and 2nd attempt of 445 on Deadlift.

I also wish to thank Collin from M&S for being so excited to be my handler. I can only say I am so grateful and fortunate to have him by my side at the meet. Having a handler to provide mental support and to help load plates, getting food, etc. is priceless.

This will also be my theme song. I think we all dream of going to the "Big League" in our chosen sport. I really feel like this is my dream. This song inspires me.

1170 would be a very nice total (if my maths are right )
You'll get a 9/9 and have your sights set on 1200
Best of luck in November!

My total at my 1st meet was 1088, so indeed 1170 would be sweet. Thanks so much Kuyt!!

Thanks J. & Big Al!! Any thought on the deadlifts? Do you think I should start higher, say 425 and then go for 455 and then an all time big PR? I am quite confident I can pull 455 as well. I reckon I will test this out before I go to Vegas.

BENCH DELOAD

Took advantage of the deload to really focus on form. Form cues today were to rip the bar apart and squeeze butt big time. These 2 points really help me get and stay tight. I also wanted to work on taking my breath after I unrack rather than before. This way I do not lose my air. I also had alot of fun with this session. On the Face Pull vid, I wanted to see if I had any back muscles.

Bench Press
115 X5
135 X3 Reps X 5 Sets
155 X3 Reps X 10 Sets

Military Press
115 X6
115 X6
115 X6

Face Pulls
70 X6
70 X8
70 X10
