Thanks Big J!! Your words mean alot and have just motivated me for my next session - the destruction and construction will resume Wednesday AM.

My whole body feels beat up after squats, bench, and deads. No need for any other lifts or assistance.

Also bear in mind that you Wont be the first to bench at the meet , so u will be able to watch those in the first few flights and get a feel for how long the judge is leaving the pause
Thanks Mark!! This session was a real confidence builder. Form wasn't great on the squats, but I'll get it done.

Thanks for the meet advice as well - I can use all I can get.

I was able to confirm my registration today with the meet Director, Tony Tomra. He said I am in and good to go. I am so excited I can barely contain myself. I now have about 15 family members making the trip, including my brother and sister. I also know my mom will be there, as the meet is on July 7th, which just happens to be my Mom's 40th AA birthday. Her AA birthday's meant everything to her. AA saved her life, and her family for that matter. I have her 1st birthday medallion and her 35th medallion in front of me right now. They will also be making the trip.

I will also be SHFW Wednesday morning!

Awesome news Jim. Plan well, and leave nothing on the platform on that third attempt.

Yes indeed Steve - and I have you to thank for nudging and inspiring me.

I am quickly learning what it takes to leave nothing on the platform.

SQUAT & BENCH SESSION

I'm getting there.

Squat
135 X3
185 X3
205 X2
225 X2
250 X5
270 X5
300 X5
330 X5
350 X1
370 X1
390 X1
405 X1
420 X1
430 X1 PR
My goal is actually to try to make 405 feel "relatively" light. As long as I can nail 405 at the meet, anything more will be gravy. All reps were High Bar and felt really good. The pause on the PR is the closest I have ever come to dropping the bar without actually doing so. I never gave up on it and this is a PR I am most proud of because of it.

Bench Press
135 X3
145 X5
165 X5
185 X5
210 X5
225 X1 Paused
237.5 x1 Paused
247.5 X1 Paused
260 X1 Paused PR for a paused rep
I really couldn't be happier and more proud of this PR as well. My bench used to be embarrassing. I am so grateful for you guys teaching me how to bench over the last year. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That squat was UGLY. Way to hang on in there and get it done.

What is the training plan here though? You appear to be maxing every session or am I missing stuff?

Hey, Jim. Guess what? A PR is still a PR no matter how ugly it is. Keep at it my friend

Yes it was, and thank you!! I literally couldn't believe that I did not drop it.

No real plan really. I was doing the Bill Starr 5X5 routine, and then I decided to just lift heavy 2X per week, mainly just the core lifts, with deads just once per week, squats and bench twice. I am not really maxing. I am trying to get used to more than 405 on my back for squats, so that 405 will feel lighter. Its a bit of a mental barrier again with 4 PPS on the bar, as far as getting it deep. I think if I can get the 405 to feel "light", then I will be more likely to get it deep. I know I have the strength to get it deeper.

This all seems to be working Al. I don't really know what I am doing as far as preparing for a meet, as I have never done so before.

Current goals for my 2nd lifts are:

Squat 405
Deadlift: 440
Bench 265-270 paused

In addition, I have had to train my grip of course, and get used to paused benching.

3 days rest in between lifting heavy seems to work for me so far

If you feel I should be doing something different, I am all ears.
