Now, it's easy to agree with BtB, but others have mentioned it before too, Al comes to mind. Confidence is huge! Just go after it! You can obviously do it, and if you have a bad day, eff it. Get it next time. I don't predict too many bad days for you as hard as you work anyway.

Very happy for you!
Thanks Mike!! Leaving the JimGym that morning without an acceptable squat was not an option. I think it's relatively easy strength-wise, which is why I was getting mad at myself. Letting my past affect my lifting is not acceptable anymore. Lifting is something nobody can take away from me.

All the ingredients for a great meet form-wise are coming together Mike. Getting my head together was the final and most important piece of the puzzle to assemble.

Funny you should mention that Big Al. We are going to Dallas Texas in July and I am going to meet Joe and Rich, and I am sure we are going to have a couple of lifting sessions.

Nobody I know from the forums is close enough to me. I have been considering getting a gym membership again and lifting there sometimes.

the emntal part of my game has been the toughest part to put together Al. I finally feel as tho I am able to do it now.

I am also hoping to make it to England soon. My Uncle has hinted he may be planning a trip for us to go there.

As I said, I would also love to train with Steve. It would be literally a dream come tru to lift with you and Steve.

MINI BENCH PRESS SESSION

I just wanted to practice benching paused. I hope my pauses were long enough. Doing paused reps sure is a b!tch. I will start up my modified routine again on Sunday morning. It will be dedicated to my mother on mothers day.

One of the nice things about having your own gym is that you can lift whenever you feel like it.

Once again, I was hoping to get to all your journals, but I am agin crazy busy at work, reno-ing moms house, getting passports renewed, and arranging our trip to Dallas the week after my meet.

Paused Bench Press
135 X2
185 X2
205 X1
225 X1
245 X1

Look really good, the pause though I have found depends on the judge. I have seen shorter and longer pauses then what you are doing, but don't worry you are on the safe side.

Awesome Big Al & Mike!! As long as I am in the ballpark, I am good Now I will do 4 sets of 5 ramp up to 2 paused singles for my routine. It would be awesome to be able to do 275 paused at the meet. I gotta work/train hard!!

Ummm...Not an expert, but I would say don't over-emphasize the pause in your training. Get stronger. That's more important.

Do your normal bench workout, then do some pause singles. That's your baseline and your upward cycle starting point. Keep raising your baseline, keep upping your max bench.

Pause looked good Jimbo.

Calgary is a 24 hour drive

We've done that to Florida. Maybe I can talk the wife into a Canada trip next year.

Yes, I agree Mike. I am going to be doing my regular routine, except 4 sets instead of 5, and then a couple of singles. This will apply to all 3 core lifts.

OK - great Steve. I now know approx how long I have to pause. I wish we were closer for sure. Like I said, I will come to Wisconsin next year if you don't make it here.

MODIFIED BILL STARR POWER ROUTINE WEEK 5 DAY 1 HEAVY DAY

Dedicated to my late Mother.

I wasn't really ready to lift this morning, but I wanted to anyway. I won't lift now until Wednesday, which will be a light day.

I gave this session absolutely everything I have. Put my heart and soul into it as it was dedicated to Mom. I felt like I was put thru a meat grinder after-wards.

After the session, we went for Mothers Day brunch at the Sheraton. Set a big time food PR with a record 5 heaping platefuls, and in the process I am sure they will ban me for next year. I am so f*cking big right now - 228 lbs at 5'9"is a weight PR and ya know what - I absolutely love the way I look.

After brunch, we visited Mom's grave site. I felt at peace as I said a prayer, shed a few tears, and told her I love her.

Squat
225 X5
245 X5
270 X5
300 X5
325 X1
345 X1
345 X2
345 X1
I wasn't happy with the 345 double. I only intended to do a single, but after the first rep I thought I would have a 2nd no problem. The 2nd rep was a grinder, and I almost had to drop the bar. I hit depth on everything.

Bench Press
135 X5
155 X5
175 X5
200 X5
225 X1 Paused
255 X1
I meant to pause the 255, but I didn't. Don't wanna screw up like that at the meet.

Deadlift
185 X5
235 X5
285 X5
325 X5
385 x1
425 X0 Grrrrrrrrr
415 X1
The 415 was the biggest grinder and hardest pull I have ever done.
