Well honestly there is only a 10 pound difference in my 1rep max between my POR and wide grip but I'm thinking of giving my POR grip a little more attention because I have really strong Tri's so it might be to my advantage.

I moved to wide about a year ago but my close grip is still close to my max. Sometimes I wonder why I bother with wides.

All depends on how the tight the briefs are really. The loose ones I wear, I can hit para in them with the bar on my back lol. I just like to use them when my hips feel a little ruff or beat up.
