Thanks HHF - glad you're following along!
A2 milk is the only dairy product I can consume. It has one of the two kinds of casein protein found in regular milk removed, and is specially treated. It costs 2 and 1/2 times as much as normal milk.

Thanks for the info brother. Haven't heard from you in a while - how you been?
I'm really truly not a fan of suicide grip, especially when raising 60+ kgs above my head, but I am going to pay close attention to my form next time. Spart and others have linked me some vids with good pointers.
Ah yes, I start university next tuesday. Orientation is this coming sunday, but that's just an excuse for people to drink at the tavern.

Woke this morning around 8am, still feeling seedy and low on energy, so went back to bed. I'm better now, and will be better still I reckon, after my brekky shake.

I GOTTA bench today.

GRADE: B
Training solo as usual, I had a scary few moments when I pushed for a ninth rep on the 100 kgs bench and failed. I still don't know how I managed to escape with no damage to my ribs... or worse.

I lowered the right side of the bar to the floor (my tiles are looking like the facade of Beirut high rise now) and wrenched the other end up over my head. The 20 kg plate on that end grazed my skull as it rolled past.

Well, call it a learning experience. I shouldn't have tried for that extra rep. With virtually every other exercise, if I try and fail it's no big deal. But there's no such thing as a safe half-rep on the bench...

And I'm really annoyed at my strength!! I've moved this load for 11 reps in the recent past - WTF is wrong with me?!

The rest of the workout was pretty good. Again, I'm happy to report that my stamina is improving every day I train. Even with the hassle of removing plates so I could return the bar to the rack after my misadventure, and along with all the other messing around (loading/unloading between sets & exercises) I completed the routine in a brisk 55 minutes! No major fatigue. And it was a pretty hot day to boot (35C or so).

40 grams (1 scoop) soy protein isolate - choc flavour
1 cup A2 light milk

All those PB's and you call it a grade B, thats a grade A if ever i saw one mate. dont worry about the strength you have spent the last day or so on the toilet buddy its bound to have an effect...

I cant see on the pic, but do you have collars on the bar ??? I would have thought it may be prudent to not put them on when benching, that way if you have no spotter and get in a spot of bother the weights will slide of the end and make it easier to escape... just a though mate

Looking very strong though buddy, very strong

Carl.

^Thanks Carl. This is true, I shouldn't expect to be working at 100% today... but even so. I really think there's something mentally beneficial to just having a capable spotter present, if not actually needing them. That feeling of safety has allowed me to push harder.

When it comes to benching without collars; I don't do it. Here's why:
I find that if there's just a slight angle to the bar when I'm raising or lowering (and it's bound to happen, my left side is MUCH stronger than my right) the plates can slide off, and the sudden change in weight distribution jars the shoulder, not to mention it ruins the set.

For this reason, unsecured plates are more of a worry to me than what happened today. In fact, I'm kind of glad it happened (again), because it's given me more confidence in handling the situation in the future. I have strength enough to move the bar out of my way... at least I did today.

But really it's my fault I got in this predicament. The moral is: DON'T TRY TO GO PAST WHAT FEELS SAFE WHEN NOBODY'S AROUND!!
