Very good book. Extremely nice pictures too, if you're into sports bras and volleyball shorts.

No, there is nothing directed specifically towards lifters, just athletes. I think the book ties in nicely with advice given at SquatRx and other places. Even though a different style of stretching is preached, the principle of increased joint mobility is the same. Stretch to Win talks of a fluid style of stretching where you're constantly moving, undulating, hitting the stretch from all angles. A lot of emphasis is put on breathing, and using your exhalations to intensify the stretch. I've also gained an understanding of how the body is a complete system. You're not stretching individual muscles, because your body doesn't work that way. You need to stretch for functionality, because everything works together. It would surprize most people to realize how many abdominal strains were due to tight hamstrings and vice versa. So we do stretches that target both areas. Like I said though originally, much of what is beneficial to me is also sport specific to my daughter. It makes it easy to work together.

I've had this copy from the library for six weeks. Time for me to buy my own.

Well, I had an unscheduled/unrequested day off work today. We had a special project early this week. Everyone was at or over 40 by the end of Thursday. It was going to be a voluntary skeleton crew on Friday. The one guy I work with is taking Monday off, so he suggested I take today. I didn't need to be told twice. I made very good use of the day too. After my morning coffee, I thought to myseld that I was planning on working at least four hours today, so why not spend that time puttering about the house and getting caught up on some projects. Looks like somebody lives here now.

I was able to get a training session in Thursday night. I was rather hesitant because of my tweaked up back. I did it anyway. Bench Presses were in order. It looked something like this:

Thursday, 8/18/11

Workout 2.3.3

Bench Press (alternated with sets of Wide Grip Lat Pulldowns)
45x5
60x5
80x5
95x5
115x5
130x3
145x7

Wide Grip Lat Pulldown 10/9/9/6/7/8/7 (56 total beats 52 total of last time)

Single Arm DB BP 50x10x3

Done.

The "Y" has their anual cleaning/maintenance shutdown this weekend. I won't be able to get in to finish off this curent wave until Monday. Then I deload for a week. Looking forward to that.

I have another show tonight. First one since last weeks big implosion. This is going to be interesting. It seems like the smoke has been cleared. We'll see though.

Thanks Val. I put in into my cart at Amazon and am going to pick it up the next time mamma gives me some allowance money. The type of information I bolded sounds insightful. Really looking forward to giving it the once over.

Up for another year of football picks?

Once you get your copy, you'll find the sports bra and volleyball shorts part insightful too. Actually the reference you highlighted was a tidbit I picked up elsewhere, but it underscores the systemic approach to flexibility and mobility which is so important for athletes, strenth athletes, and geezers like you and me.

I can't find it in the local Barnes & Noble, so it looks like I'll have to Amazon it as well. There is also a DVD about flexibility for sports performance that looks interesting. Remember a few weeks back when you asked if I had ever thought about going into business for myself? Well this just might be the ticket.
