Thanks, everyone.

07.28.11

One-Hand Dumbbell Swing: 1 set of 1 (left, then right) with 85

^ I haven't done this lift for a few years, probably around 2004, besides some occasional kettlebell swings up to 70lbs in the years following that. In 2004, my dumbbell swing PR was 90 with just my right hand, so I was testing myself here, but not pushing it to the limit. Also, my grip was beginning to slip because I wasn't using chalk.

- Later, after skimming one of my old-school lifting books, 'The Textbook of Weight Lifting' by Arthur Saxon, I realized that I've been doing the dumbbell swing incorrectly. According to Saxon, the dumbbell should be held with a neutral grip. I've been using a pronated, overhand grip.

Deadlift: 1 set of 21 with 315 (45 seconds)

^ This was my entry in an MAB challenge. I was probably good for more reps if I really pushed it, but I was getting winded and my glutes/hams were on fire.

- no belt or straps

Shrug: 3 sets of 12 with 495

Dip: 3 sets of 5 with BW+135

Preacher Curl: 3 sets of 7 with ez-curl bar + 60

07.31.11

Behind-The-Neck Push Press: 5 sets of 3 with 155

^ Easy. Definitely good for more.

- I haven't consistently trained the BTN PP in the past, only very sporadically throughout the years. I'm looking forward to hitting this hard on a regular basis.

Front Squat: 3,3,3,3,1 with 245

^ I tried to get 4 reps in the first set, but the bar kept slipping off my shoulders. I've come to the conclusion, with the help of Tony (BodybyGamma), that front squat sets should be kept to a maximum of triples, regardless of the variation (i.e. clean, cross, or straps). Anything higher and the bar tends to slide down enough to negatively affect performance.

- I've been using straps for the front squat over the past few FS sessions, but probably going back to the clean grip because my left wrist feels better.

Steinborn Lift: 254x0, 254x1 (11lb PR)

^ The first attempt was failed only at the end of the lift, when I was trying to bring the bar back to a vertical position. It was dumped over my head. Scary. After that, I succeeded with the same weight. The failed attempt isn't in the video.

Standing Angled Calf Raise: 13,12,11,10 with 180

08.02.11

Hang Clean: 6 sets of 1 with 155

Two-Board Bench Press: 1 set of 1 with 285

^ I was originally intending to do a bunch of submaximal singles or doubles with 265 on the 2-board, but I decided to test my strength because I've only used a 3-board until now.

Seated Cable Row: 3 sets of 9 with 285

Savickas Press: 3-4 sets of 3 with 145

^ I can't remember whether it was 3 or 4 sets.

Two-Hands Underhand Push-Down: 8,7,6 with 90

You have some great variety and novelty in your exercises DW, makes for interesting reading (and yet more education for me).

I forgot to mention, your seated rows would likely break the machine I have at home, and your shrugs are enormous too - were they explosive or controlled? Sorry if it's in the vid, I can't see em right now.

And how are you going with the SM equipment sale?

Thanks, LtL. The old-school stuff is really fun, mainly because it challenges you in unconventional tests of strength/endurance.

Thanks, Abaddon. I do the barbell shrug in a relatively strict manner, but not super-slow or anything like that. I would say probably somewhere between controlled and explosive. No, they're not in the video and I don't think I ever recorded my shrugs. Maybe I'll put that in an upcoming video. I already sold a couple of items and I'm probably selling more on Sunday.

Thanks, Babs. That 315 set was a test of cardiovascular fitness more than anything else for me.

08.04.11

One-Hand Dumbbell Swing: 2 singles with each hand (4 total) - 85

Deadlift: 1 set of 3 with 508

^ My two previous rep-PRs were 502x2 (1.5 years ago) and 495x3 (1 year ago).

- After watching the video, it looks like I could've done more than three reps with 508, but I guess that I was satisfied with the PR triple. Maybe I should've tried to do a 4th rep. What do you guys think?

Index & Middle Finger Deadlift: 243x1, 265x0

One-Arm Pull-Up: 7 partial lifts/attempts

Glute-Ham Raise: 12,11,10,8 with BW
