I forgot to mention that I've been doing it like that for a few years, using the clean grip, but my left wrist has been injured for the past few weeks, so I decided to try the other methods (i.e. cross-arm and straps).

One thing I've done recently is instead of actively focusing on hitting depth with my squats, I'll just do them Oly-style and drop straight down to the bottom. Almost gives a sort of stretch reflex out of the hole.

For front squats; should have specified...

For back squats I'll focus more on sitting back, but even then my descent is pretty quick.
