The iron is there during my times of happiness, sadness and anger. The iron is there available through the 4 seasons and inclement weather. The iron is there to either comfort me or motivate me. The Iron manages to show me how strong I am or how humble I need to be. The iron does not yell, but it always demands respect. The iron is not a disciplinarian, but when disrespected, I feel it for a long time. The iron does not love or hate, but we definitely share a strong bond. And no matter how far I stay away or for how long, the iron is there, waiting to be lifted.

07.13.13
RPS HeatWave
Powerlifting Meet
Merrick, NY

Cutting to 165 was a little shitty. I'm unsure of my starting bodyweight; it was probably 177-178. The total time spent in saunas was 100-105 minutes, not including breaks.

Squat:
440 - Good Lift
475 - Good Lift (7lb meet PR)
No 3rd Attempt

^ Easy opener with minimal forward lean. The 475 wasn't the easiest squat ever, but not too much of a grinder. Decided to skip the third to ensure that I wasn't too drained before the bench and dead.

Bench Press:
280 - Good Lift (5lb meet PR)
290 - Good Lift (15lb meet PR)
300 - Good Lift (25lb meet PR)

^ None of these were too difficult. I was probably capable of 305-315, so that was cool. 300 is a milestone that I've been chasing for a while. I look forward to benching in November, the meet after this one.

Deadlift:
540 - Good Lift
590 - Good Lift (6lb meet PR)
600 - No Lift

^ Smoked the opener, then was successful with 590. However, it was harder than I thought it would be. Also, a few seconds after I put the bar down, my glutes were bothering me a little. Pulled 600 just an inch or two off the floor, and that was it. I can almost always pull anything up to my knees, but not 600 today. Completely spent.

Total: 1365 (37lb PR)
Division: Open 165 Raw
Awards: 1st Place + Best Lifter

^ 590

^ This picture was when I was ~1.5lbs over the 165.25lb limit, but thought I was ready to make weight.

Thanks, guys!

07.19.13

Deadlift: 1 set of 1 with 495 (no belt), and 5 sets of 1 with 545 (belt)

^ 495 was a no-belt PR, I'm pretty sure.

Front Squat: 5,4,4 with 235 (straps on bar, no belt)

Face Pull w/ Fat Gripz: 8,7,6 with 145

Leg Raise, Straight, Hanging: 5,4,4 with BW+25

Calf Extension, Horizontal Machine: 2 sets of 11 with 320

07.20.13

Overhead Press: 5 sets of 1 with 185 (wrist wraps, no belt)

Chin-Up: 3 sets of 3 with BW+135 (no straps)

Triceps Extension, Dumbbell, One Arm: 7,7,6 with 40

Hammer Curl, Cross Body: 3 sets of 5 with 70s

^ Form was a little loose here because the weight was heavier than I wanted, due to my gym currently only having one (not a pair) 60 and 65lb 'bell.

07.22.13

Squat: 5 sets of 1 with 435 (belt)

Romanian Deadlift: 3 sets of 10 with 315 (straps, no belt)

Barbell Row, Bent Over: 3 sets of 8 with 275 (straps, no belt)

Leg Raise, Straight, Hanging: 15,13,12 with BW

Calf Raise, Seated: 2 sets of 15 with 90

07.24.13

Bench Press, Competition Grip, Paused: 5 sets of 1 with 275 (belt and wraps)

Bench Press, Narrow Grip, Touch & Go, Fat Gripz: 5,4,4,4 with 235

Dip, Parallel Bars: 6,4,3 with BW+135

^ My 2-set PR with BW+135 is 8,7. Triceps were apparently fatigued from the combination of regular bench press and the narrow-grip bench, probably more from the latter.

Lateral Raise, Standing, Cable, One Arm: 3 sets of 8 with 40
