Default Got2Squat chasing 585/405/675.

Decided to start a new log that clarifies my current long term goals. I've been training for two years as of 7/1/2016. Currently 44 years old with a birthday coming up next month. I am 5'8" tall and weigh 203 lbs. My timeframe for hitting my long term goals is before I hit age 50, so basically as an M2 masters lifter.

So instead of the frequently used 3/4/500 set of goals, my goals are 4/6/7: 4 plate bench, 6 plate squat, and 7 plate deadlift, 405, 585, and 675.

My current lifts after two years of training are:
Squat: 455x1
Bench: 290x1 TnG
Deadlit:510x1
Total 1255
Press: 180x1 Not included in the log title but I am currently working on a body weight press 200/205 ish, but would like to work towards 225+.

I have three huge milestones coming up that I would like to hit in the next 6-12 months: a 495 squat, 585 deadlift, and 315 bench. That should give me a solid 4+ years to then chase my long term goals.

Today's workout:
Monday 7/11/2016
BW 203

Squat: Rx=365x6x4
365x6,6,5@9.5+ very tough sets. Only squatted once last week, messed up schedule. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
345x6 dialed it back a bit to get the 6 reps.

Pendlay Rows: I'll be deadlifting Thursday this week instead of Friday due to vacation. I decided to do a lighter pull(vs SGDL) to make sure I recover.

Chins: As some of you may know, I do almost no accessory work. This is the closest I come to curls for the girls. Also, elbow tendinitis.
BWx12,15,11

Tomorrow will be bench and press as I move forward with an upper lower split to keep workouts shorter, as compared to full body.

I can't wait to see you hit these milestones. Your numbers are already impressive. Are you going to be willing to go up some in body weight?

Maybe, but probably not until I either maintain for a while and recomp a bit, or possibly even lose 10-15 pounds and then bulk. I do not intend to be strong but fat, slow, unhealthy and unable to walk steps without getting winded. At my height, I feel like I should be able to get damn strong at 200.

Tuesday 7/12/2016

Bench:
225x1, 245x1, 265x1x2
295xfail
265x3, failed 4th
235x5x4
225x5x3 yup, 7 sets for volume.

Press:
125x6x4

Need to make sure I am fully recovered when attempting PR's on bench. Two days off(benched Saturday) might not be enough time. Also, as you can already see above, I'm going to be adding even more bench volume. Things are gonna get crazy round here!

Thursday 7/14/2016

Word of the day: RECOVERY. I attempted to do Friday's workout a day early today as I am leaving on vacation tomorrow.

Squat: Rx=325x8x4 Should have been fairly easy...I did this same weight/reps/set scheme four months ago on 3/14. I felt very unrecovered especially in my torso(core and back), which made these squats much more difficult than they should have been:
325x8x4@death. Honestly, they were all @ RPE 8 or less but felt horrible.

Bench:
w/u to 135x5. Felt lousy in chest/shoulders so decided to just press instead

Press:
warming up with empty bar felt terrible on my right shoulder so no pressing either. I've learned when the body needs more recovery or risk injury.

Deadlift: Rx=415x5x4
w/u to 405x0. Broke the ground, then started to explode up as per usual, but then just bailed before the bar moved much. Back felt wrecked.
Rest 5 minutes
405x0

Called it. Need more recovery. Probably won't lift again before Monday. At least I got some good, quality squat volume in, so that's a great thing. Other than that, I'll be getting a healthy dose of exactly what I need to get stronger.....recovery!

Saturday 7/17/2016

On vacation but managed to sneak in an early morning training session before everyone was up and around.

Bench:
225x5,5,8,7

Deadlift:
415x5x3

Dialed the volume back a little on both lifts so I wouldn't be too wiped out for fun on the lake!
