Default My foray into Highland Games

As many of you, I have kept a log here for some time and have always been what one would call "wayward" in my training. I keep at it, hard, often, vigorously(the puns are intentional) but always hit a point where I stop caring and go off the radar. Lately, it's been because of work, but after attending the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, PA over the weekend, I have now a desire to accomplish venturing into Highland Games. I have mentioned this before in fleeting, but I think I witnessed my first Highland Games at the wrong point in my life to fully dive right in.

So I got sent out of town for work immediately upon returning and thus decided that no longer would I let work interfere/be an excuse for the dream I have of competing, so I started fresh. Have set lifting goals, set plan of attack.

I will be training 3x/wk using Matt Vincent's HVIII template with 2-3 days of conditioning and 1-2x/throwing. The throwing will commence once I round up the proper implements.

The training will consist of cleaning/snatching/deadlifting/benching/pressing/squatting each 1x a week at varying intensities.

The conditioning will consist of either
-Prowler
-Vest Walk-
-Treadmill/Treadmill Intervals
-Complexes
-Hill Sprints

The only way I get away with only 2x/conditioning is if the first session of the week is the prowler. This will be the backbone/bread and butter of my conditioning.

I am focusing on body recomp for the next 15 weeks with a lower carb diet, focusing most carbs around training.

Goals for next 15 weeks

a 145-165 Power Snatch
pause Squat 335x1-3
drop 10 pounds
Not miss a single session for any reason.
1-2x daily of hip mobility work

In the middle of the light deload before the training ramps up will post yesterday and today's training sessions shortly.
